Standing Poses:
Yoga poses like the Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Salute), Ardha Uttanasana (Standing Half Forward Bend), Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Padangusthasana (Big Toe Pose) and Utkatasana (Chair Pose) among others are indicative of a level headed person who loves standing tall with both the feet firmly on the ground. You are a naturally down-to-earth person and stand firm in your convictions and beliefs, a quality that is to be admired.
Balance poses:
Asanas like the Vrikshasana (Tree pose), Garudasana (Eagle pose), Utthita Hasta Padangustasana (Extended Hand-To-Big-Toe Pose) and Natarajasana (Lord of the Dance Pose) are popular yoga stances. And if you love these asanas, it means that even though you love staying grounded, you also enjoy testing your limits. It signifies that you like teetering on the edge in the hope of finding the perfect balance in your life. You like swaying like a tree and managing to still stay upright. And the best part? You don't mind falling down because you know you will get back on your foot and try it all over again.
Backbends:
From Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), Ustrasana (Camel Pose) and Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) to Matsyasana (Fish Pose) and Salabhasana (Locust Pose) among many others, backbends can be challenging and incredibly fulfilling. And if you love practicing them, it means you are a loving, open and compassionate person who is vulnerable and emotional. You let your heart do all the thinking for you and allow your enthusiasm for life radiate through you clearly.
Forward Bends:
Forward Bends like Balasana (Child's Pose), Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog), Janu Sirsasana (Head-to-knee Forward Bend) and many others are known to be great stress-relievers. But did you know that if you are drawn to these asanas, it could mean that you are a well-rounded person, even-tempered and introspective? You have a calm state of mind, enjoy the quiet and are more receptive to your own thoughts.
Arm Balances:
If you like the poses where you arms are put to test like the Vasisthasana (Side Plank Pose), Tolasana (Scale Pose) and Mayurasana (Peacock Pose), it signifies that you are playful, sassy and like testing your limits. You are not afraid of falling on your face every now and then and are a confident, fearless human being who never backs down from a challenge.
Hip Openers:
Everyone feels slightly intimidated by tough and painful hip opening poses like the Baddha Konasana (Cobbler's Pose), Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (Pigeon Pose) and the Hanumanasana (Split Pose), but the feeling of fulfillment you experience upon mastering these challenging asanas is priceless. And if you are one of them, it signifies that you are not deterred by a little discomfort and desire the feeling of triumph that comes from pushing yourself beyond your limits. They say that the hips are a reservoir of unprocessed emotions and if you don't shy away from these poses, it could mean that you are comfortable with your innermost feelings. You love pushing your own boundaries.
Corpse pose:
Ah, the famous Shavasana. Love it or dread it, you can't deny the effect that the Corpse Pose has on you. Everybody looks forward to that part of the yoga session where you are asked to just lie down in perfect stillness. But if the Shavasana is the only yoga stance you look forward to, then it may be your inner self telling you that you are in dire need of some relaxation and rest. You are likely lacking quiet time in your busy life and you crave for it. The Corpse Pose is a great way to know if being completely still gives you peace or makes you overthink even more. If it's the former, enjoy the zen feeling. But if it's the latter, you are in need of some 'me time'!
